(Everybody Likes to Visit) Dreamland

This is a painting of a mystical nature on one of the new plywood painting surfaces that I & my pal Jim Stevenson have recently been constructing...Jim built them in his workshop & I sanded & primed them, etc. They're nice to paint on...I may add another layer of gesso to make them less absorbent...or not...

This is a small acrylic on jute panel that I painted in between priming boards for the next sequence of paintings.

War Unending

Since it's around 10 years since I created The War Room (4-wall painted installation), I thought it would be appropriate to revisit the anti-war theme, especially as things don't seem to be necessarily getting any better, globally speaking...

War Unending, 2014, acrylic on cardboard, 4' x 9' (painted on 3 panels, each 4' high by 3' wide).

Bearer

A small, simple blue painting of a man carrying a mysterious object...

Bearer, 2014, acrylic on jute panel, 12" x 9".

Prophecy

Another in the series of blue, murky paintings on jute. In this one, the title (I tend to think up the titles during the actual painting process) was cut down from more elaborate phrases into the single word "prophecy", which seemed to sum up the painting, whilst making it more enigmatic at the same time.

Prophecy, 2014, acrylic on jute panel, 12" x 9".

Woman with a Dangerous and Mysterious Egg

This could be the beginning of a new small series of murky, crepuscular images done on jute panels, where the texture of the panel adds to the atmosphere of the artwork...

On my desk

Here is a photo of part of my desk this morning. I thought it made an interesting little arrangement...the copy of "Listening to Night Whistles" by Tina Hacker (with my Train drawing on the front), & the two recent small paintings, "Sower of the Systems" (left) & "Stellar Blue" (right). See posts below for more information on these items.

Sower of the Systems

Title borrowed from George Frederic Watts...a small painting (8 inches high & 6 inches wide) of a face made up of stars.
