Baby Mountain Goes to Michigan
This is just to mention that my artist collaborator friend Tim Lowly (The Book of Souls) and the smaller version of his musical group, the Lowly Ensemble, called Baby Mountain, will be playing at the Stone House in Brighton (Michigan, not the real one) on Friday, October 29, at 8pm, if you're in the vicinity, and some other places nearby (click on the poster to read where). Here is the poster:
Poster design by Tim Lowly.
The image comes from The Book of Souls itself, it's the facing page from "JLS and the Origin of Storms", which gives me an excuse to show that image again below:

The Book of Souls updates
Here are some of the more recent images from The Book of Souls, a collaboration with Chicago-based artist Tim Lowly, who takes my original drawings & magically processes them in Photoshop:
Sarah and the Souls of the Sea.
DJR and the Fallen Soul (DJR is Donald J. Rothschild, with whom I collaborated on the illustrated version of his screenplay/novel, Shadow Bay)
MHC and the Unemployed Souls.
KH and the 2 Expatriate Souls. KH is Karin Hanta, a friend who lives in Vermont. She's a writer/translator by profession.
Exaltation | Without Faces. This is a piece that Tim did a while ago. It deviates from the usual portrait/setting format, and is the only piece to do so at this point.

Life Drawing of a Seated Woman
I went to life drawing in Kingston NY last night, as I haven't done any actual drawing from life (I've done portrait drawings for The Book of Souls from life, but that's a different matter). Here's one of the better images...I found I was a little rusty & it took a short while to get back into the flow of things.

The Uninvitables
The Uninvitables is a new group show that I'm in, in Millbrook NY from October 22-24 2010. It's in a "pop-up" gallery, utilizing a vacant retail space (that actually was until recently an art gallery) to showcase more offbeat Hudson Valley artists (i.e. not producing standard landscape fare). Should be a great show. I'll post more details when I have them. But, here's what I have now:
The Uninvitables
October 22-24, 2010. Opening reception: Oct 22, from 5-10pm
Address: 3262 Franklin Ave, Millbrook NY.
Thanks to Jeff Romano for setting up & curating the show, & Doug Shippee for the layout & production of the poster.
The image on the poster (each of the artists gets one) is "Menowar" from 2007.

Venus Anadyomene
This is a small drawing I did the other day as part of a collaboration with the LA-based artist NC Mallory via the Flickr web site. Each week we each do a drawing on some kind of mythological or fantastic theme. This week it was Venus/Aphrodite. Previously we've done angels, demons and so forth.

The Angel of Life and Death
I've been getting back into painting on a somewhat larger scale, after generating many drawings of a small size, mostly because of Flickr...it's easier to get small works on a scanner to get a decent version of them, especially drawings, which tend to come out badly in digital photos. Anyway, here are some new paintings.

And here is the digital remix (above), conveniently reversed to avoid confusion.
