This is pretty much just me doodling around...

Kiki and the 3 Little Souls

This is the latest image in the Book of Souls, the collaboration between myself and Chicago-based artist Tim Lowly. The original artwork is by myself, with photography, layout & digital manipulation by Tim.

Kiki and the 3 Little Souls, Ayton & Lowly, 2010-2011.

You can see the series of works in its current state of completion here. The Book of Souls is not an actual book as such, rather a series of "page spreads" that have been digitally created.

Noir Astronaut

This is a digitally altered negative version of my half of this week's drawing collaboration with artist NC Mallory.

Astronaut in Noir, 2001, digital remix of an original ink on paper drawing, "Astronaut" which is 10" x 8".

See the combined astronaut artworks here, and the whole series here.

Closer

And closer still.

Closer, 2011, brush & ink on paper, 12" x 9".

Three Figures

This is just a simple sketch that I quite liked. I don't know what the narrative is, but it looks interesting.

Dark Orpheus

An ink drawing of a head that got darker & darker...

Young John the Baptist

This is another smallish drawing that I did today that might be included in the Heaven and Hell series...I'm still deciding...

Young John the Baptist, 2011, ink on paper over pencil, 11" x 8.5".

Above: a slightly earlier, unfinished version.

The Oracle at Delphi

This is a new drawing for the Journey to Somewhere series I'm working on with Barry Farmer. It started as a pencil drawing, but when I scanned it, the subtle shades of pencil tone tended to disappear, so I darkened it with brush & ink. I think the process was worthwhile...

Satan Manipulating the World

This is a new quite large ink drawing for the Heaven and Hell series, which now numbers around 90 images (out of a projected 100).

Satan Manipulating the World, 2011, brush & ink on posterboard, 28" x 22".

At the Temple of Isis

This is a new ink drawing for my collaboration over on Flickr with Barry Farmer, "Journey to Somewhere", which seems to be an imaginative & selective journey through the history of the world's civilizations. This piece started out as a figure drawing with no specific context & then became a fictional Egyptian scene.

Overdrawn

I feel that I overdid this one, possibly. Also, the face doesn't quite balance out. Need to think about this one.

Overdrawn, 2011, brush & ink on posterboard, 14" x 11".

Profile of the Changeling

New ink drawing of a woman's profile that seems somehow a little otherworldly.

Standing Figure drawing

I was originally intending this figure drawing to be somehow related to the Heaven and Hell series. However, after drawing it, I didn't really see how it would fit in. Still, I think the drawing is pretty good.

Face of God

This is a painting I've been working on for some time now, for the Heaven and Hell series. It's been through several different stages (see posts below for a couple of them). It may be finished now, but possibly not.

The Face of God, 2011, acrylic on board, 16" x 12".

How the World Was Won

Here is another new work for the Heaven and Hell series. It may be more of a finished sketch than a drawing, and I may develop the themes in this one a little more.

How the World Was Won, 2011, brush & ink on paper, 14" x 11".

Penitent

Here is a new ink drawing intended for the Heaven and Hell series.

Penitent, 2011, brush & ink on paper, 12" x 9".

Head with Eyes Closed and Stormy Sky

I tend to do a lot of drawings of invented heads. Here is a new one with closed eyes, which is kind of a mini-theme in my work.

Meditation on a Head

Another new ink drawing, of an archetypal head. This might find its way into the Heaven and Hell series.

Meditation on a Head, 2011, brush & ink on paper, 12" x 9".

The One Who Tried to Break Through

This is a new ink drawing, I'm not sure if it fits in a series of any kind.

Help From Above

New drawing, possibly for the Heaven and Hell series.

Help From Above, 2011, brush & ink with china marker on paper, 16.5" x 14".

Unfinished version.
