Dibujos Para Colorear | Drawings To Color

This is another one in a continuing series where I have found one (or more) of my artworks on another web site or blog in an odd context...this time it's the drawing below of a head (done with the infamous liquid graphite pencil, which I didn't like very much, so I tried to give it away to my kids...)

Head in 3/4 Profile, 2011, liquid graphite on paper, 11" x 8.5".

Here is the link to this & other drawings (not mine) suitable for coloring: http://es.imagixs.com/color-theory/page-7. It strikes me as a bit of an odd choice for a coloring image, due to its lack of strong outlines, which I would have thought would be a prerequisite, but what do I know? Below are some (IMHO) better examples...

A Forest, 2011.

The Acrobats, 1993.

Eros & Thanatos Were Lovers, 2003.

Here's an idea...if anyone wants to color these in, either digitally or print them out & do it the traditional way, & then send them to me (or send me a link or something), I may put them up here (if I like them, of course)...there might even be some sort of prize...though relatively few people read these posts...but, you never know...

TIP: if you click on the images to view/download, you'll get a larger version, which would be more coloring-friendly.

Forgotten drawings from the basement

I was down in the basement last night going through boxes from the time we moved house 5 years ago. I vaguely recall that at the last moment I was throwing things randomly into boxes, including some drawings, it appears. Following is a selection of some of them from around 2001-2002. They all seem to have been done with a Rotring pen or similar.

Head, 2001, ink on paper, 9" x 7" approx.

Falling Man, 2001(?), ink on paper (with stainage), 9" x 6.5" approx.

Head with Closed Eyes, 2002, ink on paper, 6" x 5" approx.

Strange Group of Figures, 2002, ink on paper, 6" x 6" approx.

Lost Head, 2002, ink on paper, 5.7" x 6" approx.

This Island Earth & Forgotten Child of Surrealism

These are 2 new large-ish ink drawings. Both are 23.5" x 18" & from 2011. The first is a drawing of multiple heads depicting a slice of humanity, the title coming from a 1950s science fiction film. The second is a surrealistic drawing of a single head -- I was inspired by surrealism in days gone by & still have fond memories, but now prefer artworks with more aesthetic & emotional resonance.

This Island Earth, 2011.

Forgotten Child of Surrealism, 2011.

The Eyes of Rainer Maria Rilke

The poet Rilke has long been an influence of mine, especially the Duino Elegies, a series of 10 epic poems, that are partly the inspiration for my Heaven and Hell series. It was mostly for this reason that I decided to incorporate a portrait of Rilke himself in this series. Here are 2 versions of this piece, with the more recent one being more accurate and intense, I believe.

The Eyes of Rainer Maria Rilke (version 2), 2011, ink & china marker on paper, 16.5" x 14".

The Eyes of Rainer Maria Rilke (version 1), 2011, ink & china marker on paper, 16.5" x 14".

New Ink Drawings (Heaven & Hell, Journey to Somewhere, Other)

Here are some new ink drawings, medium-size. The first is part of a collaboration with Barry Farmer, which was previously entitled "Images of Egypt", but that proved to be too limiting, so we've renamed it "Journey to Somewhere", as we don't know where we're going with this, & probably won't until we get there.

The next 2 are from the Heaven and Hell series, which I'm hoping to finish relatively soon (it's been around 20 years), with a target of 100 artworks. I'm up to around 72 already. The final drawing is just an exercise of drawing an archetypal face, but it turned out quite well.

The Boulevard of History, 2011, ink on paper, 16.5" x 14". From Journey to Somewhere.

Swimmer in the Sky, 2011, ink on paper, 16.5" x 14". From Heaven and Hell.

Of Sunlight, 2011, ink on paper, 16.5" x 14". From Heaven and Hell.
