Old Man 3D

This is a test head that I sculpted in Blender (3D program)...I wanted to improve my 3D sculpting skills, so the best way to do that is to actually make something. It's not too bad, I think.

The Ancient

I haven't been drawing much recently, having devoted myself primarily to computer-related activities; augmented reality & so on. But, here is a new ink drawing on an old theme, from today:

The Old Man and the Desert

Not the sea. My paintings are currently getting looser & denser...this one didn't make sense to me until I changed the background from blue to "desert" tones...then the idea crystalized. It can happen like that sometimes.

Hawkish Old Man

This is an ink & brush drawing done on gatorboard, a kind of very sturdy foamcore that resists bending & warping. It has a useful cardboard-sepia colored covering that I tend to favor. I think I may be using more of this material to work on...we'll see...

The Doge

A new ink drawing of an old man's head wearing a tall hat, partly inspired by Giovanni Bellini's portrait of the Doge of Venice.

Head of an Old Man

Inspired by all of those Old Master drawings...

The Old Man of the Mountains

This is a theme I've worked on before, that of the human head emerging from or going into rocky mountains:

Old Man and Tower

Another ink drawing:

Old Man and Tower, 2009, ink & brush on card, 10" x 8".

Another meditation on old & age & time...seems to be a little series in progress here, but this is probably the last for now. May show up in my little exhibit locally.

The Ancient One

Another silverpoint:

The Ancient One, 2009, silverpoint on prepared card, 11" x 8.5".

A variation on a theme I've done before. Still trying to capture the essence of the Leonardesque weathered head...

Profile of an Old Man

Silverpoint drawing #14:

Profile of an Old Man, 2009, silverpoint on prepared card (enhanced in Photoshop for contrast), 11" x 8.5". Riffing on Leonardo.

I think I'm starting to get the hang of this silverpoint stuff. This will be posted in due course on the silverpoint blog. It may have darkened sufficiently by then.

Head of an Old Man

A fairly loose ink sketch. Actually, calling it a "sketch" might be a bit of a misnomer, as it's fairly well realized...blurring the boundaries again (?) I guess...
