Museum on the Seam in the New York Times

It's good to see that Raphie Etgar's Museum on the Seam in Jerusalem (I was in the Bare Life show there, & have a piece in the permanent collection) has been featured in the New York Times. It was in an article in the Travel section, entitled "Where Art Thou: Twenty-Nine Places that will Open Your Eyes and Blow Your Mind". The museum was number 5 on the list, in the online part anyway.


The Museum on the Seam a couple of years ago. The museum is dedicated to political art.

Postscript: BTW, the painting of mine in the Museum on the Seam's collection is this one:


Hiroshima Ground Zero, 2004, acrylic on board, 12" x 9".

It was based on this drawing:


Hiroshima Ground Zero, 2001, pen & ink on paper, 7.3" x 6.4". It was published in the NY Times on the Op-Ed page, as you can see from the header, on August 6, 2001, on the anniversary of the Hiroshima bombing. So, from the NY Times to the Museum on the Seam to the NY Times again. So, that loop in the time-space continuum has been completed for me, and we move on...

I'm not sure I mentioned this before, in fact I don't believe I did. The Museum on the Seam (Jerusalem, Israel) produced a fine-quality art postcard of the "Witnesses" (from The War Room) b/w acrylic study that was on exhibit there from October 2007 to June 2008 in the "Bare Life" show. It can be purchased from the museum's "shop" web page, alongside postcards of works by Anselm Kiefer, Sun Furong, Haim Maor, Carsten Höller & others. I don't receive any residuals from the sale of postcards, but I thought it would be good to mention the Museum on the Seam again, as it's a great "boutique" museum specializing in political art & deserves wider attention.

Jürgen Waxweiler -- new show

I've been a bit remiss in uploading this -- I received it a few weeks ago & it got buried in the summer stuff. Jürgen Waxweiler, whom I met in Jerusalem last year for the "Bare Life" show at the Museum on the Seam (see below) sent me a flyer for his show at the Galerie Marita Jaeger, Hasenfelder Str. 6, 52396, in Heimbach, Germany. Hope I got that address correct. The show runs from August 1, 2008 to 12 October, 2008. Didn't get this up in time for the opening, but I hope it's a great show.

"Hiroshima: Ground Zero" currently on exhibit at Museum on the Seam

This just in: I've been informed that my small painting, "Hiroshima: Ground Zero", which was previously a part of the "Bare Life" show at the Museum on the Seam in Jerusalem, Israel, is now on exhibit concurrently with (though not a part of) the new show "HeartQuake". Kudos to curator Raphie Etgar on putting together what I'm sure is another fascinating show.

HeartQuake deals with anxiety in contemporary life, and highlights artworks by Anselm Kiefer, Stanislaw Koba, Adam Adach, Stephan Kaluza, Asaf Ben Zvi, and many others. Here is a link to the exhibition page.

Jürgen Waxweiler & Sun Furong

Just another reminder that you should check out the Bare Life exhibit at the Museum. Sun Furong is the Chinese artist who created the "Nibbling" installation of ripped & eroded clothing.

An excellent show. The swing upon which the bottle of mineral water sits is by Carsten Höller, by the way.

The War Room at the Museum on the Seam

Nice shot of the installation with unknown observers. From the opening of the exhibition, I presume (Oct. 12, 2007). The artwork visible in the glass case below my War Room studies is "Carpet" by Katarzyna Józefowicz from Poland. Click here to see that work on the Museum on the Seam web site.

The Swing on the Roof

This is a shot from the roof of the Museum on the Seam during the opening for the "Bare Life" show. Left to right: Diana Ayton-Shenker (aka my much better half, goddess & muse), Jürgen Waxweiler (German sculptor featured in the show), myself, a Museum Guy (I will have to ask Raphie for the guy's name). The swing is by Carsten Höller from Belgium, & is not recommended for actual use, as it's 4 stories up, above a busy street. But that, as they say, is the whole point.

Here I am, outside the Museum on the Seam, 4 Chel Handasa St., Jerusalem, about to enter the exhibit, "Bare Life" (curated by Raphie Etgar). Lovely day, great show. About 450 people came for the opening, apparently.

Just got back in from Jerusalem (via Kiev) late last night, exhausted but happy. The show was a success & I got my 15 seconds of fame on Israeli TV, in a news segment on the Bare Life show. It was also good to see Raphie Etgar (curator) & Merav Maor (museum director) again. I met German sculptor Jürgen Waxweiler and Chinese artist Sun Furong, among many other people.

The show contained work by 42 artists from all over the world, including big names such as Anselm Kiefer, Bill Viola, Bruce Nauman, Paul McCarthy, William Kentridge, Sophie Calle & so on. It was good company to be in.

Museum On The Seam

These are some photos I took in Jerusalem back in June, when I was there for a few days to visit the Museum On The Seam, a "boutique" political art museum in Israel. I'm in a show there opening in a few weeks time (Oct. 12th), "Bare Life". More details will be posted when I have them.
