A World of Souls

Just clearing the backlog of artwork here. This one was done a couple of weeks ago, & is part of my "World Series" artworks, as well as part of the Coronavirus series (works either directly about Coronavirus, or created during lockdown). The World Series can be seen on Flickr here. The Coronavirus Series is on Flickr here.

A World Full of Monsters

This circular drawing is a bit of a departure from my current, more traditional style, being almost cartoonish. I'd like to go slightly more in this direction, at least in terms of complexity, with smaller intertwined figures rather than singular, more monolithic ones. It also may play into my ongoing augmented reality work...stay tuned.

Resilience Rising animated GIF

This endlessly looping animated GIF probably gives a better idea of the piece (this is still in prototype form) than the small video previously posted. The overall effect is promising, the actual figures, if studied closely, are not where they need to be. The "new world" sphere (growing out of the old world) is textured with the painting from the front cover of my wife's book, A New Global Agenda, incidentally).

Resilience Rising

Here are the studies & a short screen capture video of the proposed large-scale augmented reality (A.R.) public art installation, Resilience Rising. This piece is in its early stages & will most likely go through several iterations before it is finished. I'll post updates here as they happen. The small figures in the video (actually, one figure repeated & repositioned for expediency) were sculpted in the 3D software package Blender.

Virus World

Whilst the Coronavirus is occupying a lot of our time, here is another drawing inspired (if that's the right word) by it. This & the previous drawing might be part of a series, not sure at this point. In the meantime, stay safe & healthy.

Manipulator of the World

This is a new painting on plywood panel done in oil paint. I tend not to paint in oil during the colder months, as my studio is expensive to heat, so it's easier to work inside with acrylics. This is from some new oil paintings I'm working on at the moment. I took the photo while the paint was still wet, and you can see that in parts, such as the upper left blue sky, where the light is reflecting off the liquin (glazing/drying agent) I used with the paint.

There is a Soul that Nestles in the World

Another one in the plywood series (see previous posting) where the warmth of the wood grain becomes a part of the composition. This one uses a very small portion of the surface of the support to give a sense of quiet intimacy.

A New Global Agenda book cover

Here is the (probably) final book cover for my wife's upcoming publication, A New Global Agenda, Priorities, Practices, and Pathways of the International Community. It's due out in February 2018, but available for pre-order via the publisher's website. See the link for the book page with all the details. And here is the original painting that was used (darkened a little for text legibility).

When I started working on this image, I thought I would do 3 or 4 variations on the theme & the publisher could choose the best one. However, they liked the first one, so that was that. I also did 3 section divider images (as ink drawings) for the inside of the book. I'll probably post those on this blog at some point.

It's a Small World

Small acrylic painting on rag paper. This may be an early version of a book cover image, but too early to tell. Stay tuned on that.

Asleep in the World

This piece can be filed under at least 2 categories: The World Series and The Book of Creation. More on those later.

The Wings of Time

A new painting that was difficult to photograph—the black paint, whilst appearing to be matt, tends to be quite reflective. The painting features the Tower of Babel (lower left), an angel (center, representing time) & the world (right).

Automaton (the World is a Hollow Glass Sphere)

As I think I've mentioned before, the titles of my artworks tend to come to me whilst I'm making them, as my mind starts to make sense of the ideas & images. This one might have been called "The Boy Who Thought the World Was a Toy", but it wasn't.

The Engineer

This one reminds me for a number of reasons of the metaphysical works of Giorgio de Chirico.

Mother Earth

A small drawing from back in 2003—I'm not sure if this has been uploaded before—in any event, this is a larger & better scan.

Cosmic Voyager

This is the second version of this image (see "Cosmic Traveler" below) & I"m intending to do a large-scale version of this one also.

Another acrylic painting on cardboard, this one using the spherical "world" motif.

Eternity and The World

Another apocalyptic painting in monochrome on cardboard...I like the sepia effect & also the way the corrugation shows through a little. This is a GF Watts-esque allegory of the fragility of the planet...break this one & I'm not buying you a new one...

Eternity and The World, 2012, acrylic on cardboard, 23.5" x 19" approx.
